Affirmations To Change Your Life

I’ve been talking a lot about affirmations lately.

I’ve taught affirmations in my Love Lottery class this season.  I’ve taught a few of my coaching clients how to use them.  I have even had several of my friends ask me how to use them to better their lives.

I’ve even had people asking me to put on an affirmations class so they can learn how to use affirmations in their own lives.

NO…not like that…LOL!

Put simply, affirmations are the practice of stating what you want (your desired outcome) as if it is true right now.


I am the mother of twins.  (That’s one of my latest that I say to myself quietly in the shower every day.)  :D

You don’t have to start your affirmation with “I am,” but there is a lot of spiritual discussion about the power of using the phrase I am, even by itself, and how powerful it is when you add anything else to the end of it.  I tend to phrase mine that way, but not all of them.

The reason affirmations work is that they go deep to the subconscious part of your brain.  They help you create new neural pathways and that results in new habits of thought and behavior on a subconscious level.

The reason we believe the things we believe, expect the things we expect, and do the things we do is because over the course of our lifetime we have developed patterns of thought and behavior that result from thoughts and beliefs that we hold, at a core level – that most of the time we don’t even know are there.

Retraining that part of your brain begins to change your beliefs, your expectations in life, and your behaviors and attitudes.  It feels like magic when it works, but it’s not because it’s magic at all.  It’s because you are changing.  What we believe, focus on, and expect at a core level is what happens in our lives.

Practicing affirmations every day is a spiritual practice akin to prayer in my life.  (I do pray, too.)  Along with gratitude and inspired action, affirmations are life changing.  They have certainly changed my life.

The first time I used affirmations I chose money and finances as a topic.  It was the thing that I was most unhappy with at the time.  I began playing with affirmations that were very small and believable, but better than my current circumstance.

I began with I am receiving $x per month.  The amount was way more than I had been earning in my new, fledgling business.  I had several others that went along with it that had to do with my clients, my business, etc.

It worked.  I got busier and busier and brought in that kind of money, and as I hit that affirmation, I increased it.  I’ve increased it three or four times now, and each time it is working.

You can use affirmations in any area of your life.  Today, I use affirmations about my business, my finances, my marriage, my family relationships, my fertility, you name it!  I use them for anything that is important to me that I want to bring into my life and be clear about.
